Center of the City Planning History

The Library Green Conservancy, an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization has worked to support the implementation of the Center of the City as an urban central park and civic center commons, approved by 53% voters in November 2018.


The August 5, 2025 ballot questions challenge the will of the voters. For transparency, we are providing the documents listed below which show interactions among the Library Green Conservancy (LGC), City of Ann Arbor elected officials, and City of Ann Arbor staff.


Where is the park at the Center of the City? While the city appointed a Task Force and the Council of the Commons, when it came to tangible actions we experienced ongoing delay, lack of follow up, and resistance. Our efforts were obstructed by elected and administrative officials of the City of Ann Arbor. Please read on. The exchanges are telling.
